I love this -- it's personal and devastating and the way you connect everything to parenthood and what we leave for our children works really well. And, on a shallow note, I like what you did with the credits at the beginning.

I like the way this looked at the fallout instead of the heroics. They may have won the battle but there's an awful lot of rebuilding to do and some things won't return.
