Lyrics
We're adrift on a sailboat

My love is the sea

Yours is the horizon

Constant and steady

You set my limbs locked hard afloat

Lifted my lonesome sails

The tide is out, the moon is high

We're sailing

Darling, your love is healing

It makes the bitter sweet

Warms the winter to spring again

Secures the colds defeat

We're cutting anchor

Casting out

Into the glorious deep

The tide is out, the moon is high

We're sailing

We're sailing

We're sailing

Thank you! I'm glad that shone through. It's one of the main reasons I was attracted to this song, the lines about the horizon and healing and the opportunity they presented to celebrate the joy he takes in science and medicine.

I would not swear to it, but this might be the first Master and Commander vid I've seen that has made an explicit point of celebrating that. I haven't seen the movie (so I don't know how much it is brought out there), but as a Darwin fangirl who has spent faaaaaaaaar too much time fantasizing about the Beagle, that aspect of Maturin's character was what always spoke loudest to me in the books.

Yes! It's very much present in the movie; in fact, that's part of what drew me to Stephen as a character (besides initially deciding to watch because I was going through a Paul Bettany phase) before I was exposed to the books. There are almost too many moments to name, and one more in the DVD extras that's especially Darwinesque. The parallels to Darwin and the Beagle got even stronger (and more confusing, heh) when Bettany played Darwin in that movie Creation. It's funny, my plan A for this vid was to do a story entirely about how Jack has fallen in love with a science geek, but I just couldn't find the right song for it.

I hadn't realized there was that much of Stephen being a science geek in there! I'm definitely going to have to make the time to watch one of these days.

(BTW, I have a friend who crewed the sister ship of the one they used in the movie. Both ships' homeport isn't too far from my parents' house.)

And I shall hope that the song will one day present itself, because that is a vid I would enjoy watching!
