Lyrics
Baby I went back to funeral row

Kicking through the old streets in a place I once called home

Not long ago

Searching for an omen, looking for a sign

Looking for the place I swore an oath of love undying

Of love undying

But I'm tired of this dull ache

This endless and fake parade

I'm gonna torch my name and my trade

Run into the bright lights

Run into the bright lights

Run into the bright lights

Run into the bright lights

Brother don't go back to funeral row

The streets have fallen silent and the cross no longer glows

On funeral row

And I'm tired of this dark place

Where hope dies and hope fades

I'm gonna leave these shadows behind

Head into the bright lights

Head into the bright lights

Run into the bright lights

Run into the bright lights

So come on Red, get your guitar

Feed the flames and feed the fire

Wishing things won't make them so

The truth is I refuse to go

Shadows where the best things hide

You can keep the brightest light

You can keep the brightest light

You can keep the blinding light

Dear vidder,

I think I love you most of all. This movie. Okay. So, I rarely go to see things at the cinema because I have this condition where it fucks with my head and I have to ration it. I went to see The Way Way Back four times. Four. I spent my ration for months on it. And then I bought the Blu-ray and forced everyone I knew to watch it and this time I could yell, "RUN, DUNCAN!" instead of keeping it in my head and. So. (Also? I am wearing my Water Wizz Staff t-shirt today. True fact. This was meant to be.)

So basically this vid is the distilled essence of Duncan and his journey and I cried and cried all the way through. I love it. I love how Owen and everyone at the water park are Duncan's bright lights and how the lyrics at the end match his growth and how he gets his mum back and he doesn't need Owen et al any more, not like he did to begin with. I have no clue if any of this is articulate at all seeing as how I'm still crying a bit. You are amazing and so is this vid. Thank you! (And thank you to the requester who gave the prompt. I win so hard.)

This is a really well constructed vid. Whoa. The music sections are perfectly used to illustrate where he's happy and where he feels unsafe. The bookending really works with the car.

Can I echo the previous two comments, especially that first one?? Lol THANK YOU FOR THIS GIFT! The song is perfect.

I'm sorry I didn't remember reveals were today and didn't check until now! Gosh I feel like it's unfair that I was gifted THREE different vids this festivids!! And oh my gosh! I love them all. I am so so happy with my gift here.

I had never heard this song before but it's so perfect!! It fits the movie to a T and gosh I've only seen the movie twice but I've also vidded it a little (made like a 15 second collab part so it barely counts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kXWN_I52jc but you know, it means I've revisited the film at least a third time...)

Anyway yes. Thank you. I'm so thrilled I ended up getting a gift about this little underappreciated gem of a film.

You captured all the little smiles, little heartwarming moments, and also all the angst and parts that made me want to give Duncan a hug. You captured it all, using the lyrics to guide you of course, (the lyric match for "fake parade" was so perfect!!) and I just was mesmerized, I loved watching this vid from beginning to end. I love the metaphor that the beach house they go to is "funeral row". And I love that he can "keep" the light at the end, that it's a happy ending, just like the movie makes you feel good by the end too.

I came for Tom McRae and stayed for the story. You drew us through so (seemingly) effortlessly. Even though I shied away from this movie, it was clear what was going on here, and in fact you may have changed my mind about wanting to watch it. Nice work.

I watched this vid last night at our Festivids watch party, and it stuck with me so much through this afternoon that I watched it again and am now tracking down the movie to watch, as I've never seen it. This was incredibly bittersweet and well-paced. You did a great job creating an emotional build, and I am full of feels!

This is so well-done! Such a good combination of music and editing and clip choice. I haven't seen this source, but this story and especially the emotions come through really clearly, and are very affecting!

Thank you for taking me along on this journey. You did a really great job setting up the plot and showing the troubles and bright parts of the character's (yes, I haven't seen the movie :D) life. A very touching vid!
