Lyrics
Wr-wr-wr-wriggle
Drop it down when it hit the blood
A milligram in the eyeball, good enough
Gotta love it, tho, it don’t hurt no more
But the problem is, you’re too vertical
(Get low)
Let it penetrate, a little bit of pain never hurt nobody
Better work your body better than the last motherfucker
Wasn’t nobody but he left a lot of fluid on the floor, no sorry
Don’t move
Get slapped
Can’t run
Bring it back
Tighten up
Stay strapped
Make it red
Make it clap, clap
Clamp that mouth shut, bounce for your boy
Rip for your girl, scream for your life
Beg for a minute
Live it like you might not get another one
The loving in your body only the beginning of it
Let 'em know that you can show off, show off (work)
Show off, show off (work)
Show off, show off (work)
Show off, show off (work that shit)
It’s all right, it’s okay
Work all night, cry all day
Come inside, you gotta pay
You know that you wanna play
[Sample: Whitehouse]
Whip your body
Whip your body
Whip your body
Whip your body
Whip your body
Wriggle like an eel
Whip your body
Whip your body
Whip your body
Whip your body
Whip your body
Wriggle like an eel
Wriggle like a fish, girl
Wriggle like a snake, girl
Wriggle like a worm, girl
Wriggle like an eel
Wriggle like a fish, girl
Wriggle like a snake, girl
Wriggle like a worm, girl
Wriggle like an eel
Slide to the left like it’s lube on the floor
What a beautiful move when you reach for the door
Like they woulda made the straps loose enough for that
This ain’t your first rodeo show
Maybe you better act like you know how to ride it like a pogo
They don't want me slow mo, don’t stop (go, go, go)
The moon calypso, but use the pole, tho
Then flip the whole show, and drip like Soul Glo
Don’t move
Get slapped
Can’t run
Bring it back
Tighten up
Stay strapped
Make it red
Make it clap, clap
Clamp that mouth shut, bounce for your boy
Rip for your girl, scream for your life

I love how that opening shot sets up Rachel's unhappiness in how she feels stuck and the title coming in to the music looks SO cool with the disjointed nature setting up both the editing and the meaning of the wrongness/unreality of what's going on. It also looks like when the text comes in, the video shifts and I love that effect and how it pulls you out of it a bit. I love how you begin with her entering the show again, having to drop it down to go back to the hell that left her bloody before. It's cool how it looks like the camera is following her as if she's on the show again which helps introduce that angle of the vid. I like the play on "eyeball" with Rachel looking around at the people judging her (great clip choice) and having to be "good enough" to take that punishment as she wraps herself up in cynicism ("this is what a feminist looks like", etc) and pretends to be fine ("gotta love it though...") in order to take it. I think the line "only problem is you're too vertical" is really interesting in this vid. The height of the visuals makes it feel like the pov is from the camera and her looking it up at it makes it seem that the problem is she's too aware of the cameras and how they're setting everyone up and that she's too aware of the sexist, dark nature of the show as well as too self-controlled when the camera really loved her last year when she scored big ratings for them.
I love how "get low" is her coming back to work for Quinn with their little smiles with pleasure and pain certainly describing their relationship and I love that the lyric "a little bit of pain never hurt nobody" reflects how Quinn doesn't take the contestants pain seriously and just focuses on the work which flows perfectly into the "work your body" being her commanding others and controlling the cameras of the show. The line "better than the last motherfucker" works so well with how Quinn compares the producers to each other not to mention to their past selves. The "fluid on the floor" clip made me think of Rachel's pain in her meltdown from last season (which works nicely to the beginning blood reference) but then "no sorry" to Quinn ignoring it and having her get right back to work by giving her the papers (nice parallel). I love how the commanding lyrics shift from Quinn giving orders to Rachel to Rachel listening to her and giving orders to the people from the show, great transition. I love how the final "clap" is Rachel gesturing to her getting shot in the head showing that even as she's enjoying the work again, she's still in pain.
More tomorrow! THANK YOU AGAIN FESTIVIDDER, I really really appreciate you making this vid for me as it is full of so much meaning and super cool editing and feeeeelings and I love it lots and lots :D :D :D

It was SO PERFECT to show the behind the scenes footage with the "show off (work)" lyrics to show the work the girls do behind the scene to try to look good on the show even if it's destructive to themselves. And I absolutely LOVE the repeating ediiting you do throughout this section (and the vid) to not only show the fucked up nature of it and match the sounds of the music but to show how they keep repeating the same behaivors (including the reality show showing the same TV patterns and storylines) without thinking deeper about it and being able to step out of them. I love how you show Rachel trying to come to terms with what she's seeing and doing as she eats and watches from different angles and "work all night, cry all day" works SO well for mindset that you can almost see the pain her eyes as she looks. It flows heartbreakingly into "you gotta pay" with that great clip choice of her tired of it all which means the relief of the "you wanna play" hand clap (nice timing) feels even more palpable both for me and as explanation of why she can still have fun with her job.
I love how you juxtapose the *pretty* elements of the show such as the rich house with the fountain and violin with the darker side of the destruction of people, use of alcohol to incite drama and the control of the girls until they can't help but come undone. It's so great how then you show the aspects of the behind the scenes production that are controlling what happens from the camera to the money that the show is producing that motivates it and gets them to do the "wriggle like an eel" bikini dancing shots. I love the structure you use of then showing the control in action with Rachel trying to use manipulation to get the girls to do what she wants and that running clip works great to drive up the tension on the sped up beats and "wriggle" fits so well with showing how it's not a natural behaivor but something fake for the cameras. Then I love how you segue with those great motion shots to both Anna and Rachel looking for comfort with hugs (love the visual parallel here) after they've been through the emotional wringer and it's so cool how you show Rachel going underneath the bathroom stall with the "eel" lyric, sooo good. You COMPLETELY won me over when you switched gears with the music to show Quinn watching Rachel go up to the door on the camera as if she's part of the show and then the parallel to Rachel going to her mom's door with the incomplete hugs for her mom, Quinn and then with Anna was BRILLIANT especially with all the visual parallels, I'm still dyyying. It added that extra layer to the section and completed the thought and yesss vid structure awesomeness.
I love how Rachel then tries to leaves that behind ("slide to the left") with the open door light shot and it's great how "beautiful move" is her trying to escape from kissing Adam and driving away. But then "Like they woulda made the straps loose enough for that" works soo well with Chet terrorizing her representing the producers keeping her on the show and "this ain't your first rodeo show" was a great callback to her stealing the car to try to escape the show before as well as referencing Jeremy in parallel to Adam. It was great to show the smoking as her addiction to the show and love with the heartbreak post-Adam working so well with "Maybe you better act like you know" since she already knows the repeating patterns of it and yet does it anyway when she feels out of control like she is in the car. I LOVE the "go, go, go" editing with Chet encouraging her and the great brakes repeating clip so fast with the lyrics amps up the intensity and gives me a great physical reaction and captures that out of control feeling really really well.
That flows so nicely in her going to Adam who changes everying ("flip the whole show") and brings out her issues with her mom trying to tell her there's something wrong with her to the repeating pain drip metaphor . It's so awesome how you edited the "don't move" section with how Quinn stops Rachel from leaving the show (just like she orchestrated the Adam leaving her which I love how you repeat later), I felt that so strongly there especially with all the movement in the previous section. I LOVE all the face touching parallels here with her mom keeping her stuck in her self-esteem issues, Rachel seeing herself in the other girl with the guy who leaves and Quinn keeping her on the show. The face turning parts on the "clap" were so great with the pain there and Rachel looking to go to the show with Chet worked really well especially with the for your boy (and girl) lyrics being Chet and Quinn. The "beg for it" clip is so sad and heartbreaking and a great contrast for her accepting her place on the show. Adam not wanting to work for the cameras was a great counterpoint to how all the girls try so hard for the camera and yet the guy barely tries as Rachel comes back strong to do her job.
I love how you step up the intensity for the second "show off" section with the girls comings apart just like Rachel just did and then showing Rachel's little dark smiles and her participating in it (on the "work" which emphasizes it so well) made it so sad. It is so cool how you show Quinn pondering what's going on which reminded me of Rachel looking at the cameras earlier and I like how it works against the lyrics with it feeling like Quinn having a moment of really seeing what's going on which segues into her drinking. The self-medicating with alcohol worked so well with "it's all right, it's okay" and with how they try to numb the pain away and Rachel's look towards the glass was really emotionally affecting. I love how you show Anna trying to leave the show and then coming back just like Rachel did earlier with the camera clip of her and Adam that Quinn has making it even more clear.
I really like how you focus the vid by mostly sticking to Anna and Grace throughout but I thought you added in Mary heartbreakingly well to show the tragedy of what they're doing when the show's machinations become too much pain for someone to handle and the drugs and drinking backfire. I love how Quinn and Rachel then support each other through their addictions and accepting what they're doing with how you show them watching what's going on around them and not doing anything. I LOVE the parallels with Rachel (and later Quinn) laying down just as Mary does when she dies which was really powerful. And the last shot is PERFECT and I love how you fade it to the color of blood with all the pain symbolism. I really, really love the song choice which you used SO well throughout in pulling so much meaning out of it and Daveed's speed works so well with that out of control feeling. I still need to watch this more because I feel like there's so many layers to it and I don't know if I got everything but it was so fun to look deeper and see how you set this up as the structure of this is wonderful which I love to see in vids.
Wow wow wow, I am so happy you took the time to make this brilliant, beautiful vid for me and I LOVE IT! Thank you! :D
