Lyrics
Yek nazar bar yaari kardam, Yaare naalidan gereft

Yek nazar bar abri kardam, abre baaridan gereft

Yek nazar bar baadi kardam, bade raqseedan gereft

Yek nazar bar koohi kardam, kooh larzidan gereft

Takye bar divaari kardam, khaaki bar fargham neshest

Khaaki bar farghash neshinad, aanke yaar az man gereft

Maa yaar nadaarim o ghame yaar nadaarim

Maa yaar be joz taalebe jabaar nadaarim

Gar gozar kardi ze raaham, ashk baaran shavad

Noore chashmat gar bebinom, del sarmast shavad

Sare zolfat raa begirom, del heyraan shavad

Gar bemaani dar diyaarom, jaan shekar zaaran shaved

Maa yaar nadaarim o ghame yaar nadaarim

Maa yaar be joz taalebe jabaar nadaarim

A single glance at a lover and the lover sighed

A single glance at a cloud and it began to rain

A single glance at the wind and it began to dance

A single glance at the mountain and it began to shake

I leaned against a wall and felt the dust gather on my head

May he be accursed, he who takes my lover away

We have no worldly love, therefore we are free from the suffering of desire

We have no lover, save for the one who is our guiding light towards truth

If you were to pass before me, my tears would turn to rain

If I were to gaze into the light in your eyes, I would enter a drunken state

If I were to touch even the tip of your hair, my heart would be enraptured

If you were to remain in my presence, I would be consumed with the sweetness of love

We have no worldly love, therefore we are free from the suffering of desire

We have no lover, save for the one who is our guiding light towards truth

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

OMG this makes me so happy. Look at those two. Look at this perfect song you chose, and this perfect title. Look at Lawrence looking at Faisal in those film reels, God. Look at them so utterly in love with each other and tearing themselves to pieces over their political maneuvering choices and the bigotry of others. Look at those eyes and those hands and that intensity and I am so in love with them and with you for making a vid for this movie, which I have to go watch again now (the vid, that is, although also the movie at some point). Thank you thank you thank you.

(And sorry I'll stop editing this comment now)

Current favorite lyric match: "the dust" as snow falls on Faisal, and Lawrence's burning gaze as what's-his-name threatens to "take my lover away."

And Lawrence afraid of being consumed by (his love for) Faisal particularly in the part with the cigarette lighter, the emotions of which are apparent from your editing and the fall in the singer's voice, even if you don't know the words.

If I weren't loath to edit that comment again, I'd revise to make clear that it's not just politics and racism that roil their relationship at the end but also personal entanglements like Mme Dumont trying to seduce Lawrence.

It's kind of a static source with a lot of talky head stuff about politics, but their faaaaaaces, OMG!

I could stare at those two guys staring at each other for ages. I went back and read the translation of the lyrics after I'd watched the vid and, yeah, that came through visually really well even without knowing the words.

I love this group: they put Persian poetry to music and do electronic versions of folk songs and things.

I have no idea what is happening except WOW is that slashy!!! And seems to end happily with them running off together? That is how I am taking it at least. Anyway, I liked it very much!

And I can vouch for the fact that bironic isn't just paying lip service, but genuinely can't shut up about it right now. *g*

I have never seen this film - or Lawrence of Arabia - but I have watched this vid 4 times already, for reasons of ALEXANDER SIDDIG'S PERFECT FACE. This is a beautifully cut, beautifully paced vid, which manages to convey real depth of feeling (and, yes, eye sex :-P) to someone who has no idea about the actual plot and history going on here. AMAZING JOB. Also, brb buying the film now.

*stares at beautiful Mr Siddig some more*

Yup. You have just detected why I watched this movie back in the 90s. His faaaaaace.

(The actual plot is: They go to political talks. People are racist. Much eye sex.)

I watched it back when DS9 was on. I really thought it was better known in fandom, but it has faded from memory over the years.

Hee. It's kind of dry now that I rewatch it, but boy is there a lot of homoerotic subtext. (Or, frankly, text.)

This is a gorgeous, gorgeous vid set to beautiful music. It's gets to the heart of the relationship, both what draws them together and the personal and political forces that put a wedge between them. The title says everything.

Yayy, thanks! I have a fannish friend in town for the weekend and this let us watch it together.

It's gorgeous! Great song choice, and so lush in the editing. The tension that you build in the scene with the horses really grips me by the heart. Even though I already know it's doomed, I so appreciate the way you end the vid, giving them (and me) reconciliation and joy and warmth.
