Lyrics
Here dwell together still two men of note
Who never lived and so can never die:
How very near they seem, yet how remote
That age before the world went all awry.
But still the game's afoot for those with ears
Attuned to catch the distant view-halloo:
England is England yet, for all our fears--
Only those things the heart believes are true.

A yellow fog swirls past the window-pane
As night descends upon this fabled street:
A lonely hansom splashes through the rain,
The ghostly gas lamps fail at twenty feet.
Here, though the world explode, these two survive,
And it is always eighteen ninety-five.

this is really lovely! I love spoken word vids, and this is a perfect choice to illustrate why TGMD is so charming and sweet (as part of the work of culture that makes these characters never die).

Oh no big deal. Just sitting here on my couch crying over how beautiful this is. I clicked through to play before reading what the "song" choice was and it hit me hard from the first line. PERFECT. ;_;

...and it always eighteen ninety-five.

Yes, this, too, is an adaptation of ACD's canon.

I haven't gotten around to Mouse Detective yet -- still working on 22nd Century and the 1950s Howard -- but I very much appreciate anything that firmly contextualizes the Mouse Detective as a part of that long, long lineage of adaptations.
