Oh, festividder. I admit, I felt a little apprehensive when I saw this was the source you'd chosen to vid, because it's so easy for drawing room dramas to come across flat in a vid. But I shouldn't have worried. This is charming! The song choice is so clever, and you picked some shots and angles I wouldn't have thought of but worked really well to keep it visually fresh, and the way you show Anne's yearning and the distance between them which slowly closes over the course of the vid, until that final moment of them holding hands... *happy sigh* Such a great vid. Thank you so much!

Oh, good lord, those eyes. Their eyes, eyes, eyes, and also their hands, and their eyes. I do have a soft spot for vids that cut slowly and let you see the performances, what the actors are doing with their faces, and this was so satisfying.

And she gets to go on the ship at the end!! I have never read Persuasion, nor watched it either, but obvs I need to remedy that, stat.

thanks to [personal profile] sanguinity for pointing me here, because this is just marvelous. I love this adaptation, and I especially love how you've used the song to speak for both of them. The hesitant pacing in this version of the song is a great fit for both the subtle social dynamics and those moments when emotion bursts through their faces. And that last "take my hand" -- swoon.

Absolutely lovely work. I second everything the other posters have said about the song choice, pacing and slow build of emotion. Great stuff!

Oh, this is so sweet! I love how the vid shifts from their hesistant and longing looks to the smiles at the end. And, oh, that final "take my hand" -- best literalism ever, and totally earned, because in the context of the vid (and the film), it means so much.

Just re-watched this yet again. New things keep popping out at me. This time I particularly noticed what you matched up with "Wise me say" at the beginning, which is so damn perfect for this source text, given its themes. And that final holding of hands still just slays me. So gooooood.

So lovely and such a great build, all those looks and then that perfectly earned "take my hand" at the end.

Oh, that was wonderful! The long shot of their hands together at last - literal but extremely effective! My little heart was just bursting. Lovely!

Really lovely mood created with the gentleness of the song working with the material, but neither stinting on the depth of the characters' feelings. Also, thank you for reminding me quite how much Hinds smoulders as Wentworth here.

This is just so lovely. My favorite adaptation of my favorite novel, and you made a really wonderful vid that captures all the good things about it. I agree with everything everyone above has said.

I am so glad that you enjoyed it! I was worried at the start about conveying the emotions in the movie, which is low-key (as you said) and can be difficult to get across. And then when I was looking for music and came across the "take my hand", I just knew that was the song.

One of the best things about this production was how they took the time to let the actors convey the emotions underneath. And I think this is one of the most emotional of Jane Austen's books. It is well worth watching.

Thanks! It is a perfect song for the pair of them, with their underlying emotions that each is afraid to reveal, certain that they've missed the boat. And I listened to about a half-dozen versions of this song, but it was that hesitant last "take my hand" that won me over.
