Lyrics
If I should have a daughter, I'm going to paint the solar systems on the backs of her hands so she has to learn the entire universe before she can say, "Oh, I know that like the back of my hand."

And she's going to learn that this life will hit you hard in the face, wait for you to get back up just so it can kick you in the stomach, because no matter how wide you stretch your fingers, your hands will always be too small to catch all the pain you want to heal, believe me, I've tried.

"And baby," I'll tell her, "You will put the star in starting over, and over. And no matter how many land mines erupt in a minute, be sure your mind lands on the beauty of this funny place called life."

And yes, on a scale from one to over-trusting, I am pretty damn naive. But I want her to know that this world is made out of sugar. It can crumble so easily, but don't be afraid to stick your tongue out and taste it.

"Baby," I'll tell her, "remember, your momma is a worrier, and your papa is a warrior, and you are the girl with small hands and big eyes who never stops asking for more."

Remember that good things come in threes and so do bad things.

And when they finally hand you heartache, when they slip war and hatred under your door and offer you handouts on street-corners of cynicism and defeat, you tell them that they really ought to meet your mother.

I'm really impressed. I think Saga, of all the static sources, would have been the trickiest to vid, and you really captured the emotion of the story and their relationship. Great choice of audio too, that fit perfectly.

This is lovely. Saga is one of my favorite comics right now, and I think the spoken audio was a really great choice.

The effect on "crumble so easily" was particularly effective.

Oh anonymous vidder, this is so wonderful. What a lovely tribute to Alana: so big and full of life and scared and persistent and ultimately hopeful.

I loved so many parts of it, but probably my very favorite was on "I am pretty damn naive". There was so much in that moment, oh I loved it.

And the technical work you did, with the masks and other effects, is stunning! You brought so much interesting motion to the still source in a way I never would have thought of, and it made the vid a real visual treat.

Thank you so much for this lovely gift! I'll be watching it again and again.

This is so good and I'm in awe of how beautiful it is. I love the use of still images in movement.

I have wanted to see a good vid to a spoken word poem for so long that I want to cry at how amazing it is. Thank you.

This is, as others have already said, amazing. It's like I thought, if someone were to vid Saga, it would either be a great song and an okay way of making the visuals work in video form, or it would be impressive technically but maybt that's all. This, though -- this is everything, and then some. It's the perfect match of text and tone to characters and source, and a masterclass in how to vid still images -- the splitting of panels and timing of their appearances and so so clever choices like putting clips on the drive-in screen and grace notes like that soaring comet, OMG -- just brilliantly done overall.

This is AMAZEBALLS. I haven't read much of this but you have blown my mind. What a beautiful way of editing comics and still images, that takes advantage of what they ARE and what's beautiful about them--expressions, progressions of panels, relations of characters to each other on a page, beautiful visuals--instead of just trying to make them mimic filmed source (I say as someone who has vidded comics by trying to make hem mimic filmed source!). And this audio choice is brilliant too, and so moving. What an unusual, perfect vid. Bravo.

This is so wonderful! The editing is so dynamic and gorgeous for an otherwise static source, and the poem worked so effectively, like a punch to the gut.

Wow. This is utterly stunning. I've only read the first volume of Saga so I knew the premise but not a lot of details; still I was delighted and excited and moved, my heart in my mouth by the end. Magnificent.

WOW. Just. wow. I don't know Saga at all but this is an INCREDIBLE use of static source - both in that it's beautifully technically done, and it's really emotional even for someone with no idea of the story. And that choice of audio is just wonderful. What a brilliantly creative vid.

I'm so blown away at the technique here, but the vid itself is so great on top of all the technical wizardry--perfect soundtrack, and perfect ending to a great exploration of their relationship.
