Whoa... That was...

Okay, at first I was all giddy with the "HA, this is a PERFECT match of song to source" and "what a fun romp!!!"

And then it got real. Wow. Well done. You gave me giggles and cold shivers in less than three minutes.

Damn. There's so much going on here, I need to watch it another five times, and then maybe write an essay about it. It's riveting. You pacing's amazing.

Wow.

Holy crap. The narrative flow was amazing, yeah, yeah, like that, and then, when I thought it was getting dark, personal tragedies and terribly choices, you just went all the fucking way. JFC. Brilliant.

serrico: Screencap of a waving scarecrow from the Doctor Who ep 'Human Nature'. (dwwaves)
From: [personal profile] serrico
...oh, *wow*.

Brilliant, *brilliant* use of the assumptions made based on the conjunction of this particular song with this particular source: the first half's so straightforwardly "Cabaret dancers taking off their clothes!", I thought this vid was going to be a one-trick pony--but then you bring in the Nazis, and Things Get Real, and...just wow. Excellent timing on your twist to the vid's narrative. The utter seriousness of the final quarter or so of the vid is a sucker punch.

So very, *very* well done.

Holy crap. That was chilling and fantastic. Things go from pleasant fripperies to outright terror, and that moment when the song turns meta instead of merely descriptive -- damn. Well done!

Oh, wow, yes. Like everyone is saying, that turn from pleasure to violence is amazing. The iron fist in the velvet glove! When I saw a Cabaret vid, I wondered whether it would be fun and silly or serious... I can't imagine a better job of both (and so deceptive about it too). Fantastic.

I like this. It really picks up when it shifts from decadence to reality/darkness, highlighting the cabaret's attempt to keep on partying when the country around them is going to hell.

This is just amazing. Watching this vid makes me feel the same kind of sick as listening to the finale number from Cabaret makes me feel (a song which I've unchecked in iTunes so it never comes up on shuffle by accident). So obviously you've done something brilliant.

I love how the use of this song isn't just for a jarring mismatch for the purposes of being uncomfortable, like a gotcha on the viewer, but really picks up the movie's themes of how sexuality and entertainment become political, how they become life-or-death matters. I skimmed the comments so I knew this wasn't just fluff, but I still wasn't prepared for that moment when the dancers appear again, but now in faux-military uniform with helmets and goosestepping--and then it just went all the way. As far as it had to go. Allow me to repeat myself and say: AMAZING.

this vid is amazing, powerful, smart, fun, and terrifying all at once - I don't know what to say except bravo. You pick up on all the links in the film between sex/sexuality/performance/entertainment/politics/oppression and just . . . compress them, and extend them, and I don't even know, it's overwhelmingly good. The first fleeting glimpses of swastikas that then get more and more prevalent, the increasing desperation to the dancing and performances . . . wow. I am blown away by this vid.

I love Cabaret, and I really want to see this vid, but I can't see it. Does anyone know a way to see it non-embedded? Do I need a mystery plug-in? I haven't been able to see any of the vids that have this password and cute background on them.
Thanks, feel free to msg me privately if you want.

Just returning to say: this is one of the finest vids I have ever seen. I put it up there with sisabet's "Without you I'm nothing" smallville vid, klia's life on mars "Crazy," and other vids that left me crawling on the floor wondering what the hell just happened. But in a good way. And you did it without the emotional shortcut of a pairing.

"Without You I'm Nothing" and "Crazy" went beyond pairing arcs and into the rougher themes of self-destruction and the nature of reality. This vid first makes us complacent, and by the time we realize we are terrified, we, like the people in 1930s Berlin, have a sickening feeling it's too late. So for me this vid is about the evil that can be at the heart of complacency.
