Lyrics
Not going on the road no more
Let some other fool sing these songs
Let some other guy take my place
I've done this for too long
Done this for too long

I have given them twenty-odd years
They took the best years of my life
And all I got to show for all this
Is songs that make you cry
Songs that make you cry
But there'll be

No more sad songs
No more sad songs
No more sad songs
No more sad songs

Sing the one about the guy that lost his true love
Play the one about the girl he left behind
Everybody wants to hear the sad ones
Everybody wants to hear the sad ones
And for the life of me
I don't know why

What the hell did I ever do
To deserve to be loved by you
Sweetest music there could ever be
Is standing next to me
Standing next to me

And we'll sing

No more sad songs
No more sad songs
No more sad songs
No more sad songs

ohhhhhh my god, dear festividder! I teared up! I finished watching it and I said, "WOW was this ever made for me!", because it's just exactly the thing I love about my favourite queer movies and just the thing I love about the Donald Strachey series, that all the heartache and pain and violence and oppression is there, but takes a back seat to these people who love each other and have each other and have family. <3 <3 <3 I can't tell you how much I love this! I love that you include Strachey's PI-on-the-beat melancholy and exhaustion at the beginning, and I love how you use Donald and Tim as the centre from which to tell the other joyous stories that we find throughout the series. The shot of the trans lady hooker doing the little pirouette was perfect! Yes! No more sad songs!

AHHHHHHHHH I love this so much it's exactly what I wanted that I didn't know I wanted! Thank you SO MUCH. <3

Oh yaaaay I am so glad you liked it! I originally noticed your Dear Festividder letter when I was browsing through them looking for something to vid at the last minute, and these movies are short and there's only four and I already had them, so it seemed like a good choice. And then I got to thinking about things you've written about the inescapability of Tragic Queers and their Tragic Stories and how hard it is to get away from that, even in queer-created and queer-targeted media. And how your promotion posts got me to watch the movies in the first place (and read one of the books, I really need to get around to some more), in great part with the promise of queer people leading their lives, living stories that neither erase nor obsess over their queerness. And so this vid is basically a love letter to 1.) the Donald Strachey stories' refusal to be Tragic and 2.) your excellent thoughts on media. So I'm very very happy that you enjoyed it :D
