OMG OMG OMG!!! I am flailing so hard here, Anon, because this is amazing and perfect and WOW! What a fantastic encapsulation of the movie, with the build and the timing and pulling in all the best parts. I love the parallels you drew between Ren's warehouse dance and Ariel's highway stunt, and how Ren's not sure about the wilder things he pulls off, but Ariel is right there with her risk taking, cocksure and confident, right up until Chuck beats her. Way to bring in Duran Duran for the soundtrack, too.

This is more than I could have asked for, so THANK YOU! I can't wait to get a download for this. In the meantime, I'll be watching this over and over. :D

Thank you, I am so pleased you liked it! Like you, I have very happy memories of this movie. I was on a road trip with two high school friends, aged about 14 or 15, and we stopped for the night in a small town. It was winter, very dark and stormy, and the three of us huddled in our little motel unit and watched Footloose on the in-house movies. It was the best kind of slumber party. So I would never have made fun of it, in a million years :o)

Awesome! Great musical timing, and Ariel especially really came through as a character. I loved the parallels -- visual and thematic -- that you brought out during the section that intercuts between Ariel playing chicken with the semi and Kevin Bacon's character dancing alone.

Thanks! I put a lot of thought into the parallels between Ariel's self-destructive tendencies and Ren's use of dance as a way to express and let off steam, so I'm glad it worked :o)

This is such a perfect summary of the film -- the po-faced oppressiveness, the ridiculously innocent rebellion, the dancing, oh, the dancing. I feel all nostalgic and bittersweet now. Good job.
