Ohhh, this is lovely! I've always loved that track by Nina Simone, and you've done a fantastic job matching lyrics and the energy of the song to the vid you've crafted. Razor-sharp editing, very enjoyable to watch, and it evokes a ton of feeling for Mariah that's otherwise very diffused throughout the season of Luke Cage. :)

Oh wow, I love this. The song is such a great fit for Mariah's bravado and swagger, the tension between her self-reinvention and her playing out of Mama Mabel's story (those paired shots of each of them drinking, followed later in the vid by turning down Mama Mabel's photo -- I got chills).

This might be my favourite Festivid this year. It's in the running for sure. Haunting, beautiful, rich and complex, just like Mariah herself. I wanted this vid so badly and I'm just thrilled that you made it. I love the use of black space at the beginning, the way you take your time and don't overplay it, so the buildup is slow and sweet like the song. 10000% endorsement of Mariah/Shades JUST the way you play it here, with her in total control. Ugh I just want to roll around in this vid forever. It's delicious to get to glory in loving such a gorgeous villain, and that's what this vid lets us do.

Wow I LOVE this vid and how you put it together. Gorgeous song choice and I love how you use the opening to tease it with the black fades and the painting on "new day" was AWESOME. You capture her power through so many amazing looks and I love that shot of her walking away from Shades. I love how you show her past and how she tries to show a beautiful facade for the cameras and public. I love how you show her grappling with the emotions of what's happening and the "freedom" being him falling out the window (with the black fades highlighting it niiice!) was PERFECT! All the Mariah/Shades stuff was amazing and I looove that :2:2:33-2:40 section SO MUCH with how it builds up the emotion and excitement and ends on her in control with that beautiful blue light. And the dialogue clip at the end was the PERFECT fuck yeah ending :D Such an amaaaazing vid, thank you so much for making it!!!

Okay vidder, there is NO EXCUSE for taking so long to watch and comment on this. I absolutely love Mariah Dillard and this vid suits her perfectly! Perfect song choice, love the opening shots especially the 'Jesus saves' and Red Kings painting on 'it's a new day', the Shades/Mariah Of It All, the recurring gun & family photo imagery (loved her turning the photo over at 2:16 right after the Cottonmouth sequence). You just captured her character arc & contradictions so well here. Again I'm so sorry for being a late-commenting recipient but I LOVE this vid and am so grateful to you for making it. <3
