Title of vid: Dear Prudence
Recipient: futuransky
Vidder: Mithborien
Fandom: Misfits
Music: "Dear Prudence" by Siouxsie and the Banshees
Summary: This vid is a character study of Alisha and Alisha's story in the TV show Misfits. My recipient asked for an exploration of the "race/gender/consent issues in Alisha's portrayal". I am not sure how effective my vid is in showcasing this as I suspect it needs a few more edits but I hope you enjoy! Spoilers to 2x07.
Content notes: Sexual violence

Dear festividder, what are you talking about, needs a few more edits? This is GREAT. I feel like I have such a better understanding now of Alisha's character and how she is negotiating between the way her femininity makes her both powerful and vulnerable, even before she gets her power.

I love the song choice––somehow using Siouxsie's cover, with the female voice singing to a woman in a way that comes from a male-gaze kind of perspective, fits really well with Alisha's dilemmas. I also loved the way you use the action/violence shots in the first part, cutting between them and Alisha strutting along with her femme power, then how things get messier... a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, but in a very good way.

I especially love the intimacy of the opening followed by the cut to the storm. I kind of wanted to get out of my chair and leap around, only then I would have missed the rest of the vid. :)

I have to make a confession to make, which is that I have been totally snowed under with RL work and have only watched a couple more episodes of the show since posting my request. So yes, I did get spoiled, but I don't regret it! I will try to come back with more feedback when I get through the rest of it, though. :D

Thank you :) I think I was just freaking out for no reason over this vid, or at least that's what all my betas said.

I am so glad you enjoyed the vid. There were many things that I wanted to incorporate in to the vid so it's good to know it all works for you :D

Well done! This is really disturbing, just as it should be. Great timing, too.

Oh wow, this is really interesting. I don't know this show but know the gist of Alisha's power at least and have seen a few vids about her, but this was the first one where I felt like I got a sense of what her power actually is within the vid, visually. This is a really interesting exploration of how she uses it and has it used against her. That moment where they touch through the table after a lot of conflict, ack.

gorgeous - and splendid song choice! (although the song is new to me, but I love that it's a siousie cover and how wonderfully it fits!) I think you've created quite a poignant meditation on race/gender/consent issues around Alisha's character.
